New Nellie McKay Song

Hey, even if the lyrics are bit...eh...hacky...er...on the nose...or...something I can't quite place, I'd like to compliment her since, when I first heard this song, I listened to it three more times (for a total of four in a row). It is kinda hypnotic that way.

It's streamed from Sony's website:

Nellie McKay (nay Nelly Mckai) - The Big One (real media stream)

Quicktime stream as NellieMckay.com.

Plus, according to her website, she has 6 songs on the "Rumor Has It..." soundtrack. I wonder if they are any good.

And I wonder what happened to NellieMckay.net? It went away a while ago. It had a libertines article up for a while. Maybe she wrote that article, but I wasn't sure. Now it's just a black page again.

Nellie's new album comes out Jan 03.

Dylan to Host Weekly Radio Show

From WaPost:

"Bob Dylan -- singer, songwriter, former counterculture figure and voice of a generation -- has added another line to his rsum: radio DJ.

The enigmatic troubadour has signed on to host a weekly show on XM Satellite Radio, the D.C.-based pay-radio provider. Dylan will select the music, offer commentary, interview guests and answer e-mail from listeners during the one-hour program, which will start in March, XM said yesterday."

Indie Christmas songs

So, here's another Christmas mix of mp3s with some good ones I've heard before and some I don't ever want to hear again. But it does include "Christmas Party" by the Walkmen which I had never heard before.

I just got my tree yesterday (see my beard pic for today) so I'm ready to be in the spirit. Come on spirit...Get With It!

So here is the link to the Christmas Mix.

NBC moves The Office to Crapday

I don't watch much television but I go out of my way from 9:00 - 10:00 pm Tuesday night. I love the Office. I guess I have a soft spot for it since I got to preview it for the Daily Press.

I like the Angela character a lot. She's such a control freak and a perfect, perfect straight-woman to the wackiness of the other characters. Her look when Michael started ruining her party plan had me laughing good. She and Michael need more together on the show. Everyone is so funny on that show. Angela has her own myspace page.

I also like the IT temp guy Ryan (since I'm an IT guy). I think they are still pushing the Michael-has-a-crush on Ryan story from the fire episode. Michael plays favorites with Ryan.

You can vote on the best office Christmas photos here.

Dwight has a blog too.

Anyway, all this is pointless because they are moving Earl and the Office to crappy Thursday. Thursday is dead NBC. Tuesday is the new Thursday. I should write a strongly worded letter to every advertiser from Tuesdays show.

Now all that is out of the way, NBC and iTunes are teaming up and you can buy for 1.99 the full 10 minute clip of Conan O'Brien (With ANDY Richter!!!) doing their "Famous Helping People" sketch. If NBC keeps this up, I'll be spending lots of money on iTunes. I mean, you can drop 2 bucks and watch an episode of the Office right this second! I love this technology crap. So, with this iTunes deal, NBC is back in my good graces.

Make Your Own Maggot Brain Kit

Make your Maggot Brain album cover. "Your Head Here." Posted by Picasa

Who says a man can't stick his head through a box, sprinkle dirt around and take his own picture and play rock. Posted by Picasa

Yep, I did it for yesterday's Whiskerino2005.com picture. I was having trouble clicking the shutter and getting into position without the dirt shifting around. Jaime was working late, so I tried using a tripod. I think I nailed the face.

A Song So Awful it Hurts

Slate's take on the worst song I have ever turned my radio up for: Notes On Hump

Here is a song that is so good. I mean this here is one of the classics. Where were you when you first heard this song? I was walking into a Sears in Victor Valley Mall in Victorville, CA. A delivery guy pulled up, got out of his truck and walked in the store. He had this song playing so loud I could hear it across the parking lot. I could tell immediately who was singing, but I didn't recognize the song.

Pre-internet it took some real legwork to hunt down a song based on hearing it once. I found out though and when it came up in the shuffle of my mp3 player the other day (driving back from seeing Thumbsucker at the Naro in Norfolk) I was playing it just as loud as that delivery driver was 10 years ago.

Here's a yousendit link: CCR - Born on the Bayou.mp3

D-D-D-Daily Press

Could this be the lead singer of Volcano Roll in this parody commercial?

Watch the video here: dailypress.com/localads (the video featuring Chester the Crab).

The commercial that I would add to this article is, "It's Doctor Credit!! I have a prescription for you!!"
