Inspector 13

"Feet are for Moving, Not for Staring at." BEST Slogan EVER!

TTIKTD has Dirtbombs AND Mountain Goats tracks. Mmmmmm, goat.

----------------------------------

I'd like to introduce you to another Killers track Eric posted. He told me that it was on their UK release of Hot Fuss, but not on my USA'n version.

Killers-Indie Rock n Roll.mp3

I'd also like to introduce you to my new favorite band. Inspector 13.

The other day, the bassist of The King and Caroline was telling me of his old high school band...Inspector 13. In fact, it was with Sammy Ponzer, who later went on to the now defunt the Can Utility (Richmond's own). It's now defunct because Sammy is out in L.A. trying to "make it big." Good luck to him. Based on these songs, he deserves it.

They are what Rock n Roll is all about. What you are about to hear was not created by multi-millionaire's in their mansions, but instead, created by kids in their rooms.

I'm reminded so, so, so much of the Modern Lovers.....not better than the Modern Lovers, but that lo-fi, off key singing, with the quirky lyrics reminds me just the same. They also reminded me a lot of Milk (from Spike Jones' Video Days; I'll post them one day).

Here is the song that touched me first, being that I am in the computer business:

"Welcome to the world of computers, if you don't have a sledgehammer by now, you won't make it alive"

Inspector 13 - Computers Suck.mp3

Here is a song about Melissa's Cat (the same Melissa of this King and Caroline song):

Inspector 13 - Baba Keates.mp3

He's screaming "Meeeeeeeeeeoooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww". Another good scream break in this one:

Inspector 13 - On My Way.mp3

And one more, since I had room for it on my server. Enjoy!

Inspector 13 - Shoulda Come Out Last Nite.mp3

Of Nurse Ratched and Men

"The next woman takes me on's gonna light up like a pinball machine and pay off in silver dollars!"

Ever seen Nicholson get electro-shock therapy? I have, and it's...huh...intense.

I've, ah-hem, "discovered" a new band called Radio4. I, ah-hem, "discovered" them by sampling the tracks at TTIKTD. Go, ah-hem, "discover" them for yourself.

Here is the greatest song ever recorded: Hank Williams - You're Gonna Change Or I'm a-gonna Leave.mp3. I know you've heard of him. But I also know you've never bothered to actually listen to his music. Well this, if not the greatest song ever recorded, is way up there. I know this would be on my "desert island" mix.

Go buy at iTunes, Napster, Amazon, Best Buy, Wal-mart, Plan-9, Relative Theory, etc. You won't be sorry.

De La

what i'm watching Right Now: The Simpsons, Season Four - Lisa's First Word
-----------------------------------------------

Bondies rock. Jason looked really scared, and his voice seemed weaker than usual because of it. Carrie's hair looked a lot better on TV. And Don....sigh.

Here's a song I like. I loved De La Soul is Dead (click to buy) so much as a youngster that I still have a shrink-wrapped cassette I bought, just so I'd always have a spare copy. But the CD version has this extra track that's not on the tape. I like it a lot.

Kicked out the House

Von Bondies Survey

You can stream a few of the Von Bondies tunes in their entirety and offer your opinions at the Von Bondies survey site.

They are on Letterman tonight. Oh, sweet Marcie!

Will Carrie have that butch, blonde mullet? Will Jason's voice sound as thick and meaty as always? Tune in tonight to find out.

Most important reason why you should watch? So you can finally see just how awesome Don the drummer is!!

"You Are Forgiven"

Hey, look what I found. It's an extremely accurate tab for my favorite rock-n-roll song ever!

Long Live Rock!!

Matthew_Cox-A_Quick_One.mp3 (6.7 MB)

(Hey, not too shabby for sight-reading, heh?)

Shins

Shin's pics from the show last Tues. (I left the show feeling disappointed, but the more I think, the more I realize just how great this show was):

LetThemEatLead issue 10

O.K. Let Them Eat Lead is a webzine that's pretty good. Dirtbombs....I heart you.

If you wanna have some fun, disagree with Max Dropout. He knows what he thinks, and thinks he is right: even if he's not. But he cares about music, and wants you to like what he likes and I can't find fault in that. If you don't like it, don't read it. Anyway, the point of all this is that the new issue is out and it's always worth checking out.

Now, if Snap and Clap would be done. I'm getting antsy.

Lastly, Ending East is a cool website based outta Hampton, VA. He booked the Longwave show. Thanks Eric.

Longwave

what i'm listening to Right Now: The Killers - Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself
----------------------------------------------

Good times. Steve, the lead singer/songwriter, talked to us for a bit. Joe "imacuckoo" even got a song dedicated to him. He was chatting up Steve and asked him about the rumor of a Sea Monster concept album. Steve said they want to do it, and that they would sing the song that night. During the set, Steve said, "This song is for Joe, who comes to see us anytime we're 100 miles from VA Beach. It's called 'Joe's Sea Monster'." Then, later in the show, Steve said, "This is a new song, it doesn't have a title yet, so lets just call it, 'Joe's Sea Monster'."

Man, they went on late! Too late for a weeknight for us in VA. We all have to drive across bridges and tunnels, and then we swerve a lot and fall asleep at the wheel, and almost kill our loved ones. Needless to say, I'm beat today.

Longwave has a new bassist and drummer. Steve said they were working out great and he was much happier about the atmosphere in the band.

The openers where Norfolk's own Mon Chi Chi.

They are pretty good, but we all agreed with the Daily Press music department that the chick in the skirt (the one on the right) was weak. Maybe she just had a bad day, but she needs to work on her voice more. A drummer practices their drumming, guitarist practice their guitaring. Why don't more vocalist practice their singing. She should record herself singing the songs and think about things like; where to breathe, which words need stronger pronunciation, and how to sound "thicker" instead of so dog-whistle annoying. The other girl though, in the hooded sweatshirt (the one on the left). She was awesome! I'd like to have her song some of my songs. And who can forget bassist "Turbo"? He was the real star of the show. Their drummer was good too.

Their guitarist guys were too self-conscious on stage. It's tough to get comfortable on stage for most anyone. They all seemed like they were playing to their friends more than the rest of us. I think that "friends" shouldn't say things to the band on stage. That's called heckling when a stranger does it, and it's still heckling when a friend does it. Heckling is anything, positive or negative, said to the band that expects a response. So like, "Sarah, sing She Said, She Said!" is not negative, but it's still heckling 'cause the band has to "answer" the statement (the band usually answers non-verbally by not playing the song). Saying, "We Heart Turbo!" that would be o.k. since it doesn't really need any comment or answer. Yelling "Freebird" though, that's o.k. We should all do that more.

Delegate was up next. cool. Steve said that their guitarist was "hot". He said, "I have a girl-friend and all, but I can definitely say, 'that guy's hot'. Like Nic from the Strokes."

Personally I thought he looked just like the guy from Ambulance...but hotter. His hair was the coolest. The are opening for Franz Ferdinand up in DC soon.

Um, I'm rusty with this blogging. So busy at work trying to play catch-up after my vay-kay. Stay tuned. Good summer coming!

I'm Back!

I'm back: red, rested, and raring to go.

Good stuff, like this Killers album that's out finally. Now I have it.

Napster has new Stellastarr* tracks and the new Hives single available to download. Love that Hives tune.

I did get back into town in time to see the Shins last night, and any moment I'm leaving for Longwave! Back-to-Back!!

Hives Song

You might be able to click here for an MP3 of the H!ves song I told you about earlier. It ain't the best rip, but it'll do 'till the album comes out and we all go out and buy it!! (Evaluation purposes so I can't be held respons. for what happens after two days.)

I still recommend the Vid.

PS I'm away from home so posting will be sporadic 'till next week (two good shows then!!). I'm done with Chicago since the kidney patients are happy and pissing into bags attached to their legs. Now comes my Puerto Rican VA-Kay with my lil' bro (we gotta party afore his wife drops his first born).

Go buy the new David Sedaris for a great first-born story.

New Hives

Sweet Momma, it's like an eyeball-gasm. GarageDream Show Us the Way (It's Well Worth the Register)

Whew!

Thank you all for the well-wishes. The brother-in-law is home resting in his living room (i'm on his computer), The sister-in-law is at Grandma's in Elmhurst (I'm in the Chicago Suburbs, and the surgery was in NorthWestern Hospital in Downtown Chicago: hence, the "Apple Store" reference in the comments of the last post).

David Sedaris is in town reading from his new collection, "Dress Your Family in corduroy And Denim." I tried to go see him yesterday at Unabridged Bookshop on Broadway, but two hours later, we still weren't inside the door yet, and we had to get back to the hospital. He is in Oak Park ("This is Brad, Sarah and Darryl and we're in trouble....Ain't no doubt!") tonight, but I couldn't get over there. Oh well. I already have the book and it's a good one, as always. Of course, I had read a bunch of the essays before when they appeared in magazines and such.

I stumbled around the 'net and Soviet Panda has another Killers song. Since that seems to be the theme around here lately, go get it afore it's too late.

Thanks again for all the love!!!

PS. That Apple Store was awesome, and now I want a mac REALLY bad! I sat in on the "Garage Band" workshop. That thing is really neato. Editing the MIDI was amazing. Does Cool-Edit or ACID do that? I need to find out.

Kidney Transplant

Sis-in-law is donating kidney to brother-in-law. Going to be outta town for two weeks. Updates will be sporadic. Keep 'em in your prayers.

In the mean-time: Try to SoulSeek for the Strokes - Arlene's Grocery video from Apr. 2000. I just found out about it and it's awesome. The boys are dancing around on stage unlike their more recent just standing there style. Jules is throwin' Beastie Boys elbows on the mic, and Nick falls off the stage during NYC-Cops. I'm trying to figure out a way to get it to you when I get back.

Don't forget to check out the "Blogs I Like" section. I got some good ones over there.

Feel Free to scroll up and check out my Archives! Thanks for stopping by!
